Hunter’s Moon at Grandview Overlook
For the last several months, we’ve been planning a trip to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve to photograph the fall foliage and capture the rising Hunter’s Moon.
We were hoping for a spectacular show as we arrived at Grandview Overlook on Sunday, October 25, around 4:45 p.m.
The sun was beginning to sink behind us, but our eyes were fixed on the distant ridge beyond the New River. We were waiting patiently for the Hunter’s Moon to make her appearance.
When a full moon rises while there’s still light in the sky, pinpointing the exact moment it crests the horizon can be surprisingly difficult. But as the sun dips below the hills and twilight settles in, the moon begins to reveal her beauty. Her shadows and craters become more defined with every inch she climbs above the ridge. As darkness falls, she ascends into the evening sky in all her autumn glory.
Tonight’s moonrise did not disappoint!
For me, the full moon represents the completion of a cycle — a time for reflection, gratitude, and new possibilities. It’s an opportunity to look back on the blessings of the month behind us and dream about what the months ahead might hold.
In this season of life, Ed and I are enjoying our time together while preparing for more adventures on the road. We’ve witnessed some beautiful places, made wonderful memories, and met some lovely people along the way. It’s a joy to share a little of that journey with you.
We were especially grateful to meet Brandi and Josiah, new friends from Florida, who joined us in watching the Hunter’s Moon rise. Thank you both for sharing that special moment with us!
